Volunteers unloaded a semi of water one night and water and MRE's another night from a military vehicle. These supplies were distrubuted by volunteers to county residents who were affected by the ice storm.

01-29-09 Barn Collapse
Heavy ice topped with snow brought this barn roof down trapping about 25 head of cattle underneath. HCRFD responded initially to a barn fire, but there was no fire when they arrived, so they assisted in removing debris to free the cows.

01-29-09 Truck Fire
Truck brakes on fire summoned the HCRFD to the scene where they quickly extinguished the fire and cooled the truck down.

While serving mutual aid on another structure fire, HCRFD was dispatched to this house fire. Firefighters battled this blaze for quite some time. Fortunately no one was hurt.

01-27-09 Winter Storm
Even Firefighters are not exempt from the havoc that winter storms can cause as you can see in this photo. One of HCRFD's own had a tree limb to fall on his truck. HCRFD responded to many calls throughout the day and into the night of downed tree limbs and power lines as well as rescue calls.

01-25-09 Grass Fire
It didn't take very long for this dry field to ignite. HCRFD quickly responded to the scene and had this fire out before it could enter any more fields.

01-21-09 Tractor Trailer Rollover
A beautiful morning did not stop this rollover from happening as the driver's right wheels fell off the side of the highway. He over-corrected and lost control of his rig. Chief responded in Rescue 1 along with other firefighters and extricated the driver out of his cab. He suffered minor infuries.

01-22-09 Field Fire
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly fire travels on dry ground! Such was the case with this field fire which HCRFD responded to. WPFD was also called to assist with their brush truck and 4 firefighters.

01-21-09 Two vehicle collision
HCRFD responded to a two vehicle accident. Although the weather conditions were super, these drivers were not having a nice day. Fortunately injuries were minor.

01-20-09 Grass Fire
Pottersville FD requested Mutual Aid for HCRFD on this large field fire. Several round bales of hay were in the path of this fire and took some time to extinguish.

01-17-09 Structure Fire
HCRFD responded to a structure fire. Mutual aid was provided by Pottersville FD, Caulfield FD, and West Plains FD. I believe there may have been one or two firefighters from Lanton FD there as well. Fortunately no one was in the house. The firefighters tried to save what they could and worked for quite some time to bring the fire under control.

01-09-09 Grass Fire
Unseasonably warm weather has prompted land owners to get some burning done. Unfortunately, this burn got out of control and began a large grass / brush fire. HCRFD responded and took care of business.

01-08-09 Grass Fire
This week has seen it's share of grass fires... another reminder that home-owners need to be careful with their burning. HCRFD responded to this large grass fire moving quickly toward a barn, and in another direction, toward a church. Fortunately the crew got it under control in great time, saving both structures. 01-07-09 Grass Fire
As the sun began to set, HCRFD received a call for a grass fire. Fences hindered the progress, but firefighters were able to extinquish the fire in short time.

01-07-09 Two Vehicle Accident on Highway
HCRFD was dispatched to a 2 vehicle accident out on the highway. Firefighters quickly responded and were able to not only provide rescue, but enable a funeral procession to proceed on past the accident which had partially blocked the highway.

01-06-09 Rollover
Early in the morning, HCRFD was dispatched to this single vehicle accident. Fortunately the driver had a cell phone and was able to contact 911 as no-one witnessed this accident. The driver had rolled this vehicle from a bridge, and it was not in clear view of the highway. Fortunately our Chief located it and directed the ambulance crew and other firefighters to the scene. This driver was also fortunate to escape serious injury...and note... they were wearing their seatbelt.

01-05-09 Structure Fire
HCRFD was just finishing up the grass fire call when they were called out on a Mutual Aid call with Pomona to a house structure fire. The house was fully engulfed when a deputy sherrif happened to drive by and alerted the FD.

01-05-09 Large Grass Fire
HCRFD was dispatched to a grass fire in the early eavening of 01-06-09. Upon arriving, they found that there were 4 separate fires on about 5 acres of brush, some of it dense.
However, they extinguished the blazes in very quick time.
